TACTILE METAMORPHOSIS
Holmegaard Works Museum, 2022
Textile-Paintings
The Tactile Metamorphosis are created from textiles from four generations of women in Maria Dubin's family. Maria inherited a large chest from her mother, filled with treasures: her great-grandmother’s embroideries, her first school outfit, tie-dye shirts from the 70s, bobbin laces, a velvet cloth from the 1920s, sheets from the 1980s, a carpet bought in Mexico in the 1960s, along with her mother’s appliqués, and more. During the first COVID lockdown, Maria found the courage to transform these cherished items into the Tactile Metamorphosis—textile paintings that honor the legacy of these women.
